New & improved Tate St Ives opens for business

Tate St Ives has been transformed by a four-year building project - and it opens to the public for the first time today (14 October).

Doors open at 10am and the first one hundred visitors are promised a goody bag. The gallery are putting on fun family activities, pop up tours, events and talks, including a firework display on Saturday evening at 8pm.

The new Tate St Ives has been a 4-year building project that's built almost 600 square metres of galleries, and created new studios for learning activities.

It hopes to welcome around a quarter of a million visitors each year - over three times the number for which it was originally designed - who bring £11 million annually to the local economy.

For the first time, Tate St Ives will be able to give a permanent presence to those 20th century artists who lived and worked in the town.
