Royal Marine to be sentenced over terror offences
The sentencing of a Royal Marine from Exminster who admitted preparing for an act of terrorism gets underway today.
Ciaran Maxwell was arrested in Somerset last August after the discovery of two major arsenals of weapons hidden in Northern Ireland.
Police found what they described as a "library of documents" resulting from research about explosive substances, the construction of explosive devices, and tactics used by terrorist organisations.
Maxwell was charged with a number of offences including storing bomb making equipment and stolen military weapons.
The sentencing is expected to take three days at the Old Bailey.
