Warning about beach safety after paddle boarder rescued
People using beaches across the West Country are being urged to make themselves aware of weather conditions before entering the water.
It comes after a woman had to be rescued at Sennen Beach, Cornwall after she got into difficulty in strong offshore winds. The RNLI used a water craft to rescue the paddle boarder on Thursday lunchtime.
The RNLI say simple steps can help keep people safe:
Take time to plan your paddle
Tell a friend where you are going
Prepare well before taking to the water
Use a leash
Know how to escape from a rip current
Wear suitable clothing, including a personal flotation device
Be aware of the effects of cold water shock
