Owner speaks out after his 'ugly' yellow car vandalised in picturesque village

The elderly owner of an "ugly" bright yellow car blamed for ruining the view of a picturesque village has spoken out after it was vandalised.

The car was written off after the word "move" was scratched into the bonnet of the Vauxhall Corsa, parked outside a 14th century cottage in the Cotswold village of Bibury.

The driver's side window and rear windscreen were also smashed.

Owner Peter Maddox became the source of controversy in 2015 when visitors complained the car was wrecking the classic English scenery.

Built in the 14th century Arlington row in Bibury looks idyllic, and is one of the most photographed locations in the cotswolds.

Even in the winter, there are tourists.

But, it is far from the haven of peace and tranquility it might appear in all the photographs - and the vandalism has left a bad taste in everyone's mouths.

During the night 84-year-old Mr Maddox's car was vandalised causing so much damage it had to be written off.

Every panel was ruined. Windows smashed. Scratched deep into the paintwork of the bonnet was the word "move".

The retired dentist lives in a cottage above Arlington Row.

As his car was bright yellow, and because of where he parked it, it appeared in thousands of tourist pictures, reportedly irritating some because of its colour.

But after the story of tourist's holiday snaps effectively being photobombed by a banana coloured car caught the imagination of the press, it wasn't long before events took a sinister turn.

The incident deeply unsettled Mr Maddox and his family.

This is the first time his son has spoken publicly about what happened.

Mr Maddox has now bought a new car - it is grey, and he says he does not like it as the colour is "too boring".

On April 1, in protest at what happened to the car, a group of yellow car enthusiasts, are staging a yellow car rally through Bibury
