Halliwell 'not linked' to Claudia Lawrence murder police confirm

Police in Yorkshire say convicted double murderer Christopher Halliwell is not linked to their investigation into the murder of Claudia Lawrence.

The force were responding to claims by former detective superintendent of Wiltshire Police Steve Fulcher who helped bring Halliwell to justice for the murders of Sian O' Callaghan and Becky Godden in Swindon.

Mr Fulcher told several Sunday newspapers last weekend that 52-year-old Halliwell had links to the area in York where chef Claudia went missing in March 2009.

Earlier this month Halliwell was found guilty of the murder of Becky Godden- a sex worker who went missing in Swindon in 2003.

The former taxi driver had previously admitted to the abduction and murder of Sian O' Callaghan outside a nightclub in Swindon.

But despite Mr Fulcher's claims Claudia Lawrence may also have been a victim of Halliwell's, North Yorkshire Police have denied any link and said the media speculation does not help Claudia's family.
