We've been left 'stunned and traumatised' murdered soldier's family say
Dave Curnow - one of the youngest soldiers to serve in Afghanistan - was out with his girlfriend and friends when he was attacked by two men.
Connor Hammond and Liam Laing subjected the soldier to a ferocious attack - which shocked his family.
CCTV cameras captured the assault and also showed Laing and Hammond celebrating afterwards.
Laing boasted to friends that they had done what he called a good job on Mr.Curnow.
His family were in court as the pair were jailed for life. Speaking through spokesperson, Detective Neil Goldsmith, said the family had been left "stunned and traumatised by the mindless violence".
During the trial the jury was told that Mr.Curnow was home on leave from the 4th Rifles.
Mr.Curnow was punched and kicked in an attack which last several minutes. He suffered severe head injuries and died the following day in hospital.
An imprint of one of Laing's shoes was found on Mr.Curnow's collar bone.
The attack happened within yards of the recruiting office where he joined the Army as a sixteen year old.
Four years later his life ended in a pointless and brutal assault by two men who admitted they didn't even know him
