Harmonie Rose's parents join thousands calling for rollout of meningitis vaccine
Families of children who have survived meningitis have joined a leading West Country charity to campaign for the rollout of the potentially lifesaving vaccine.>The immunisation programme started last September for all newborn babies, however those born before July are not currently eligible for the vaccine.>Now the parents of Harmonie Rose from Bath who lost all her limbs after contracting the disease have joined 400,000 others in signing a petition for the NHS scheme to be extended.
Harmonie Rose Allen was struck down by meningitis B just days after she took her first steps at 10 months old. Day by day, her parents prepared themselves to say goodbye to their little girl.>She was covered in an horrific rash from head to toe - her kidneys failed, her heart was very weak, her body was taken over by the disease.
Harmonie survived - but lost all her limbs to the bacterial infection. As part of her recovery, she's also learning how to use her new prosthetic legs.
Since that dark day in 2014 her family campaigned tirelessly to make a vaccine available to newborns. In September last year it was finally rolled out. >But there are still many more children who are not entitled to the treatment. Children like Faye Burdett.
Faye's parents released this photo that shows the 2-year-old just hours before her death. It has sparked a public outcry and now more than 400,000 people have signed a petition calling for a changein the Government's vaccination policy.
The petition, and outcry from the public, including celebrities hopes to save more lives being lost needlessly.
