Harmonie-Rose takes first steps towards walking unaided after Meningitis

A two-year-old girl who lost all her limbs to meningitis has taken one step closer to walking for the first time.

Doctors did not think Harmonie-Rose Allen would survive after she was struck down by the disease but a year on she's now got her first pair of prosthetic legs.

The doctors who treated her said her case of Meningitis B was one of the worst they had ever seen but Harmonie-Rose defied the odds time and again.

It's been over a year since she got ill so to have her with legs and doing what everyone else does when we were told she wouldn't survive is incredible.

Harmonie-Rose's mum is overjoyed with her progress: "It's been over a year since she got ill so to have her with legs and doing what everyone else does when we were told she wouldn't survive is incredible."

"I'm even dreaming about her first steps. It will be such an emotional thing to see her walking again and once she takes those steps she'll keep getting better and better and it'll just be amazing."

Having spent most of her life getting around without legs - Harmonie-Rose is still more comfortable sitting down but her parents hope that with time she'll gain the strength and balance to take those precious first steps.
