The West Country has a new sporting hero. His name is Jonathan Tiernan-Locke and he's from Plymouth.

He's the first British winner of the Tour of Britaincycle race in 19 years. The 27-year-old held the lead going into yesterday's final stage in Surrey and finished close behind Mark Cavendish to confirm his victory.

The Endura Racing rider becomes the first British winner of the race since Chris Lillywhite in 1993.

Jonathan is now being tipped to join the same cycling team that Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins rides for.
