St Paul's Carnival thrown into doubt after Council pulls funding
The long-term future of one of the biggest events in the region has been thrown into doubt after losing funding.
The St Pauls Carnival attracts huge crowds to Bristol - but it's only been held twice in the past four years.
Bristol City Council announced it was withdrawing funding for next year's event because it no longer had confidence in the organisers. It's after a meeting today between Bristol City Council, Arts Council England and the board of St Pauls Afrikan Caribbean Carnival Ltd.
The money usually set aside for the event will remain dedicated to delivering a future celebration of Afrikan Caribbean culture, heritage and community.
Bristol Mayor George Ferguson is calling on the community of St Pauls to come together in the build up to 2018’s landmark 50th carnival anniversary.
