The organisers of Bristol's St Paul's Carnival have released a statement on the cancellation of this year's event.

They suggest the carnival will return in the future and look ahead to the event's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2018.

This is not the first time the event, which attracts 100,000 people to Bristol each year, has been cancelled. In 2012 it was called off due to a lack of funds and safety concerns.

This year it has been replaced with a family fun day and variety show at the Malcolm X centre in September.
