Cardiff City celebrated their return to blue shirts by beating Fulham 1-0. It was the first time the Bluebirds have played in their traditional kit at home since 2012.

Cardiff celebrate return to blue with a win

Cardiff's boys in blue started their first match back in their traditional kit with a hard fought win over Fulham.

A Sean Morrison header from an Aaron Gunnarsson throw-in early in the first half was enough to secure all three points for Russell Slade's men.

The attendance was recorded at over 22,000 - a huge increase from around 4,000 who attended the Bluebird's last home game against Colchester in the FA Cup.

Elsewhere in the Football League, Newport County secured their fourth win on the bounce - they dispatched Portsmouth 1-0 at Rodney Parade in League Two.

Wrexham fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Stockport, earning an FA Trophy second round replay.

Cardiff City game will go ahead as planned

Cardiff City have confirmed their game against Fulham this afternoon will go ahead at 3pm as planned, despite concerns over ground safety.

The roof at Cardiff City Stadium was damaged due to high winds, but fire crews have been working to secure the site.

Cardiff City game 'anticipated to go ahead'

Cardiff City's match against Fulham this afternoon is expected to go ahead, despite damage to the roof of the stadium caused by high winds.

The fire service were called out to carry out repairs this morning and it was thought the game could be under threat, with the club stressing the safety of fans, staff and players was the priority.

But the club have now tweeted that they believe the game will take place.

Fire crews have been working this morning to secure the roofing of Cardiff City Stadium following wind damage.

High winds both today and yesterday have damaged the structure ahead of this afternoon's Championship game against Fulham.

The club have stressed that the safety of supporters and staff are the priority. The referee for today's game has been inspecting the pitch and stadium since midday.

Cardiff City will assess the safety and security of Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon ahead of today's games against Fulham.

High winds yesterday and this morning have damaged the roofing of the stadium.

Cardiff City: Investigating damage to two stands

Cardiff City have tweeted to say that safety officials are investigating roof damage to two stands at the Cardiff City Stadium, caused by high winds overnight.

There is no statement yet on whether there is any doubt about whether this afternoon's Championship game against Fulham, due to kick off at 3pm at the stadium, will be affected.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service says crews are assessing whether they can remove dangerous cladding.

This afternoon's match is Cardiff City's first back in their traditional blue kit, and therefore expected to see a huge attendance and celebratory atmosphere.

Cardiff City are due to face Fulham at the stadium at 3pm, in their first game back in their traditional blue kit.

The Bluebirds are also expected to recall Kenwyne Jones, Sean Morrison and David Marshall to the first team, after manager Russell Slade rested them in Cardiff's FA Cup win over Colchester.

Elsewhere in the Football League Newport are in action against Portsmouth at Rodney Parade.

The League 2 side are just two points off the automatic promotion places after beating Carlisle last weekend.
