Wales recovering from extreme weather disruption

Just a few hundred homes are now left without power across Wales, after storms earlier this week.

As many as 4,000 homes were still without electricity yesterday, but the vast majority have now been reconnected.

Western Power Distribution says all of its customers had their power reconnected before midnight.

Scottish Power says there are "hundreds rather than thousands" still without power, and engineers are working on reconnecting them today.

Western Power Distribution say they hope to have all their customers reconnected by this evening. Engineers have been working throughout the day to reconnect just over 2,000 customers.

The number of people without power in south Wales is decreasing - but many still remain cut off. Western Power Distribution are continuing to work on reconnecting customers following the recent bad weather.

The leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats has tweeted a photo of how the severe weather has affected her farm.

Around 6,350 households across Wales are without power. Strong winds and heavy rain have been hampering repairs. Around 3,450 of the homes affected are in south Wales - supplied by Western Power Distribution. Scottish Power is working to reconnect 2,900 homes across north Wales.

The River Dee has burst its banks in Corwen. North Wales police are advising drivers in the Green lane area to take care and not to take risks.

Meanwhile Sarah sent us this image after she woke up to find roof tiles and slates in her garden.

People are being reminded to secure loose items such as garden furniture as the strong winds continue.

There is more disruption on Wales' roads and rail lines on Saturday morning.

The M48 Severn Bridge remains closed in both directions, due to strong winds and an overturned lorry.

A number of other roads have been blocked by flooding and falling trees.

First Great Western has advised customers "not to travel today if possible due to major disruption", and there has also been disruption to Arriva Trains Wales services.
