Wales recovering from extreme weather disruption

Just a few hundred homes after now left without power, after recent storms. There is still disruption on the roads.

Hundreds without power, as most reconnected

Just a few hundred homes are now left without power across Wales, after storms earlier this week.

As many as 4,000 homes were still without electricity yesterday, but the vast majority have now been reconnected.

Engineers have been working to reconnect homes over the last few days.

Western Power Distribution says all of its customers had their power reconnected before midnight.

Scottish Power says there are "hundreds rather than thousands" still without power, and engineers are working on reconnecting them today.

Just over 2,000 Western Power customers cut off

Western Power Distribution say they hope to have all their customers reconnected by this evening. Engineers have been working throughout the day to reconnect just over 2,000 customers.

In south Wales we are dealing with 30 incidents affecting 2,285 customers. All faults are being worked on and restorations continuing – anticipated all customers will be back on this evening

Number without power falls - but many still cut off

The number of people without power in south Wales is decreasing - but many still remain cut off. Western Power Distribution are continuing to work on reconnecting customers following the recent bad weather.

"We currently have 3,361 customers off mostly in the east Wales area. Our engineers are working hard to restore customers as soon as possible."

Around 6,350 households across Wales are without power. Strong winds and heavy rain have been hampering repairs. Around 3,450 of the homes affected are in south Wales - supplied by Western Power Distribution. Scottish Power is working to reconnect 2,900 homes across north Wales.

River Dee in Corwen bursts its banks

The River Dee has burst its banks in Corwen. North Wales police are advising drivers in the Green lane area to take care and not to take risks.

Strong winds continued overnight

Meanwhile Sarah sent us this image after she woke up to find roof tiles and slates in her garden.

People are being reminded to secure loose items such as garden furniture as the strong winds continue.

Disruption to roads and train services

There is more disruption on Wales' roads and rail lines on Saturday morning.

The M48 Severn Bridge remains closed in both directions, due to strong winds and an overturned lorry.

A number of other roads have been blocked by flooding and falling trees.

First Great Western has advised customers "not to travel today if possible due to major disruption", and there has also been disruption to Arriva Trains Wales services.
