Floods across the region

Flood alerts are in place across Wales, with the prospect of more rain throughout the day.

• Double the distance you leave between your car and the car in front, as stopping distances are increased on wet roads.
• Try to avoid driving through standing water, but if you have no option make sure you drive slowly and steadily and use a low gear.
• Don't drive through fast moving water.

There's been more flooding today with snow thawing and more rain falling. Six flood warnings and 42 flood alerts have been in place. Hannah Gurney now reports from Pontypridd where a flash flood last night took many residents by suprise.

Environment Agency Wales has issued flood warnings for the Dyfi Valley in Gwynedd, the River Severn at Abermule and Fron in Powys and the River Usk from Brecon to Glangrwyne in Powys and Monmouthshire.

A further 43 flood alerts are in place for Caerphilly, Anglesey, Bridgend, Powys, Wrexham, Newport, Gwynedd, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Conwy.

Further flooding hit Wales overnight with several roads in Carmarthenshire, Powys, Gwynedd and Pembrokeshire closed.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said incidents were 'widespread' including Cwmbran, Pontypridd and Treharris.

Mid and West Fire Service received a number of calls overnight, but flooding was not as severe as Friday night.

Flooding hit many parts of west Wales last night with emergency services dealing with hundreds of calls. And the morning after the night before in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire it was time for the clean up operation as Dean Thomas reports.

Environment Agency Wales says localised flooding is likely across many parts of Wales as further heavy rainfall is forecast overnight.

Further bands of persistent rain are expected to reach most of Wales on Saturday evening and through the night to Sunday. It is likely to be worse in south and mid Wales.The agency is also warning that a rapid thaw of remaining snow may contribute to flooding and surface water on roads.
