Parts of the Rhondda have been hit with flooding following heavy rain on Wednesday evening.

Almost 200 properties in Pentre, Maerdy and Treherbert are reported to have flooded following a yellow weather warning for rain which covered much of Wales.

Further heavy rain is expected throughout Thursday morning across most of Wales.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council said they have "deployed additional resources" and are responding "proactively."

It comes just four months after the area was hit by flooding during Storm Dennis.

One man said his parents live in Pentre and their street has been hit again after it was flooded in February. Steve Hughes said his parents were only just getting ready to move back in but now he thinks they may not want to return.

County Borough Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda CynonTaf Council, said: “In response to significant localised flooding, to almost 200properties across the County Borough, the Council has deployed additionalresources, to support the local authority's highways crews and to assist theemergency services.

“The flash flooding caused by yesterday evening’s severe thunderstorms, has unfortunately impacted upon communities which have already experienced the devastation of flooding earlier this year.

Labour MP for the Rhondda Chris Bryant says many families have been hit.

Plaid Cymru MS Leanne Wood described the scenes as ''heartbreaking'' and said sand bags are urgently required for streets in Pentre, Maerdy and Treherbert.

More heavy rain is expected across most of Wales until midday on Thursday. Thunderstorms are also likely across parts of south Wales in the afternoon.
