Firefighter who survived ICU after getting Covid-19 is reunited with his family
A firefighter who spent weeks in and out of intensive care after being diagnosed with Covid-19 is finally out of hospital and has been reunited with his family.
Steve Landon spent 23 days in Wrexham Maelor Hospital - including three stints in intensive care.
But on Monday, the 39-year-old firefighter from Wrexham finally came home to his wife and four children, exhausted but determined to continue his recovery.
Steve's wife Becky said: "Our superhero came home yesterday afternoon.
"It's amazing to have him back but as a family, it's hard for us to see how this virus has weakened him and how the things we take for granted, like walking and talking, still leave him breathless and exhausted.
"An x-ray shows he has scarring on his lungs.
"No-one knows the long term damage or prognosis as the virus is so new."
Steve's recovery will include continued physiotherapy sessions and follow-up appointments at hospital.
Over the weekend, Steve was able to film an emotional video thanking the NHS staff who saved his life.
Becky, who works on the hospital's children's ward, said: "It's been a relentless rollercoaster but Steve has fought.
"He said that one night he had no fight left and he could feel his life slipping away, he truly believes it was the army of people praying and fighting on his behalf that brought him through.
"We will keep believing in a total miracle.
"We have nothing but gratitude for the amazing medical team who have got him this far.
"The journey is not over yet as he continues to heal but one step at a time we will get through this together."
