Drugs and cash seized after police given extra stop and search powers in Cardiff
Drugs worth thousands of pounds and a weapon were seized after police were given extra stop and search powers in Cardiff.
It comes following two stabbings in a 24-hour period in the capital last week.
As a result, South Wales Police implemented what is a called a Section 60 notice which gave officers the power to search any pedestrian or vehicle in the Butetown, Grangetown and Riverside areas of the city from 2pm on Saturday until 6am on Monday.
Seventy people in total were stopped during that period.
The force said it was put in place with the aim of "preventing serious violence, to find dangerous instruments or to apprehend anyone carrying weapons."
Police also seized £4,500 in cash, cannabis, crack cocaine worth up to £2,500 and a lock knife. Two people were arrested in Riverside.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of both stabbings which happened in Riverside and Butetown - but said the two are not connected.
Both men who were stabbed are expected to make a full recovery.
The Section 60 Notice was in effect from 2pm on Saturday, February 1 to 6am on Monday, February 3.
Eral Tyrone Mathurin, 34, from South London, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court on Monday after being charged with being in possession of a class A drug, with intent to supply. He was remanded in custody.
An 18-year-old man from Riverside was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and possession of cannabis. He has been released under investigation.
