School closed as roof blown off by Storm Brendan
A primary school in south Wales has had to shut its doors after a part of its roof was blown off in Storm Brendan.
Maerdy Community Primary School in the Rhondda shut on Wednesday 15 for health and safety reasons.
The Met Office issued a severe weather warning for Monday and Tuesday as heavy rain and wind caused disruption across Wales and the rest of the UK.
A statement released by the school on Tuesday said: "We are closed tomorrow in the interests of health and safety, due to; the hall roof being partially blown off, loose and unsafe flying debris.
"We are aiming to open on Thursday following checks by RCT. Further updates will be sent tomorrow.
"We would like to thank you for supporting us as always today."
Rhondda Cynon Taff council also took to Twitter to announce the closure.
The storm brought high winds and rain across Wales and the UK on Monday 13. A weather warning was in place for the first two days of the week.
Winds of 76mph were recorded at Capel Curig as drivers were warned to take extra care on the roads.
A fallen tree in Bontnewydd caused delays after it blocked a road in both directions. The police said the road would be impassable for 24 hours.
