Storm Brendan hits Wales causing damage and disruption

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning predicting two days of gales from Storm Brendan.

Strong gusts are forecast for coastal areas of Wales with a yellow warning for wind in place and heavy rain expected.

Winds of 76mph were recorded at Capel Curig as drivers were warned to take extra care on the roads.

A fallen tree in Bontnewydd caused delays after it blocked a road in both directions. The police said the road would be impassable for 24 hours.

Pictures from the scene showed fallen lines as emergency services attempted to remove the large tree from the road.

Heavy downpours also caused disruption on Anglesey which saw strong winds and hailstorms on Monday afternoon.

The M48 Severn Bridge was also closed to high-sided vehicle and motorbikes due to strong winds.
