Peter's Food Services plan to employ former Triumph staff in 110 job expansion

Bedwas-based bakery firm Peter's Food Services has announced plans to create 110 new jobs after securing "a number of new deals" to supply UK brands and retailers.

The firm says as a result of the additional branded and ‘own brand’ orders, it will be moving to a two-shift operation later this month, resulting in the need to recruit the new staff.

The company says the recruitment process is already underway, and discussions have been held with up to 50 people affected by the closure of Triumph in Merthyr, to fill a number of roles.

The Merthyr Tydfil furniture factory closed on October 8, putting more than 200 people out of work.

In February 2018, Peter's Food Services announced it was cutting 100 jobs at the factory.

It said the decision to "terminate some contracts which it considers unviable for the business" was due to "exceptional increases in raw material prices."

The Bedwas-based company currently employs 730 and has annual revenues of £65m.

Started in the 1950s in Merthyr Tydfil, the company produces pastries, sausages and saveloys, and has ten distribution centres around the country.

The business says it services 13,500 customers annually.
