Great Western Railway's timetable revamp: How will it affect you?
The new December railway timetable for South Wales has been made public. GWR says it offers faster journey times and more frequent services.
Regular users are being asked to check their new journey times ahead of what the company calls the biggest timetable change on the network since 1976. GWR’s Intercity service will run to a fully electric timetable between Cardiff and London for the first time.
The company has launched an awareness campaign.
From Cardiff Central:
there will be more and faster trains to and from London Paddington
there will be longer trains between Cardiff, Bristol and beyond
From Carmarthen:
for customers travelling further afield, the mainline timetable will change significantly
From Newport:
there will be more and faster trains to and from London Paddington
there will be longer trains between Cardiff, Bristol and beyond
From Swansea:
some trains to and from London Paddington will be faster
GWR says, from May 2020, the additional services, along with more seats will give customers travelling between South Wales and London 15,000 extra seats every weekday.
Passengers between Cardiff and Portsmouth will continue to see more modern, five-carriage Turbo trains replacing the current three-carriage Class 150 units.
Those on GWR services between Cardiff and Taunton/Exeter can also expect to see new trains running at the busiest times of day. The company says these will help to increase seats numbers by over 1,800 every weekday.
The changes start on 15th December.
