Carl Sargeant's son hopes to take father's seat in Labour by-election
The son of the former Welsh Government minister Carl Sargeant, has announced that he will apply to be the Labour candidate in the by-election caused by his father's death.
Carl Sargeant, who had been AM for Alyn & Deeside since 2003, was found dead last month.
Mr Sargeant apparently took his own life after being sacked as a minister and suspended from the Labour party over allegations of improper conduct towards three women.
He had denied any wrongdoing and First Minister Carwyn Jones has agreed to an independent investigation of how he handled the matter.
Labour has yet to start the process of choosing a candidate for the by-election on 6 February.
The party could be tempted to select Jack Sargeant, as choosing him would almost certainly ensure that no independent would run as a candidate protesting at Welsh Labour's treatment of Carl Sargeant.
Jack Sargeant describes himself as a loyal member of the Labour party, who felt honoured to meet Jeremy Corbyn when he attended his father's funeral. But he insists that he would be his "own man, with his own principles and values."
