Former soldier dies after being Tasered by police
A former soldier who served 15 years in the army has died after being tasered by police.
Corporal Spencer Beynon, 43, who toured of Iraq and Afghanistan, collapsed after being hit by the taser.
An independent investigation has been launched into the tragic death of the former soldier just yards from his home in Llanelli in West Wales.
The former member of the Royal Welsh Regiment lost comrades in a roadside bomb attack in Basra - and was left traumatised by his experiences.
Mr Beynon suffered from post traumatic stress disorder and had turned to using cannabis after his release from the army more than five years ago.
Police were called to his street in the Morfa area of Llanelli, on Tuesday night after a neighbour raised the alarm.
It is understood Mr Beynon - known as Spence - was injured and police were worried about his own safety before firing the taser at him.
He died after collapsing in the street.
Emergency crews were called to the scene in Maes Y Bwlch in the Morfa area of Llanelli at around 7.35pm on Tuesday.
Several neighbours reported hearing an "almighty commotion" before the arrival of several police cars.
Halder Monteiro, 43, who lives nearby, was among those who saw the incident unfold:
It is thought Mr Beynon, who did not live in Maes Y Bwlch, had been visiting a friend in the street.
His niece Georgia said:
In December 2007 Spencer was welcomed back to Wales along with his regiment when hundreds of people lined the streets for a homecoming parade from Iraq.
After leaving the army, he moved back to his hometown.

"Spencer was massively for the community and he would do anything to help anyone".
Police were called to his house after being called to reports about his behaviour.
Officers then discharged a taser in a bid to control him, and Spencer later died.
The Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner has responded to yesterday's incident.
The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. The IPCC confirmed it was investigating.
An inquest is due to be opened.
