How has Wales fared in Eurovision over the years?

It's been 19 years since a UK entry last won Eurovision, and this year there's hopes that half Welsh duo 'Joe and Jake' will take the title.

Joe Woolsford is from Ruthin, and hopes, along with his singing partner Jake Shakeshaft, to wow audiences with their song 'You Are Not Alone'.

But it's not the first time someone from Wales has made an appearance on the Eurovision stage.

  • 1970 - Mary Hopkin, Pontardawe

According to the records, Mary Hopkin was the first Welsh person to represent UK in 1970.

She performed her song Knock, Knock Who's There, ending up in a respectable seventh place behind France.

The song went on to become Hopkin's second number 2 hit in the UK.

  • 1976 - Nicky Stevens, Carmarthen

Nicky Stevens is the only Welsh person to ever win the contest.

She performed in 1976 as one part of the four-piece 'Brotherhood of Man'.

The band scored their first hit in 1974 and entered two years later with the song 'Save Your Kisses For Me'.

  • 1990 - Emma Louise Booth, Bridgend

Was the youngest Eurovision contestant to represent the UK when she made her appearance in the competition at the age of 15.

Finished in 6th place with her effort "Give a Little Love Back to the World". Italy came out on top.

The single reached number 33 in the UK singles charts.

  • 2002 - Jessica Garlick, Kidwelly

Came joint 3rd in 2002 with her effort "Come Back". Was the highest placed song Britain achieved in the 2000s.

Finished in the Top 10 of singers competing on the ITV talent show Pop Idol in 2001.

Although born in Derby, she moved to Wales as a young girl and attended Glan-y-Mor Comprehensive School in Burry Port.

  • 2004 - James Fox, Cardiff

Appeared in TV Show Fame Academy before singing for the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest.

His song "Hold on to our Love" finished 16th out of 24 entries.

He has since starred in a number of musical theatre shows across the UK and US.

  • 2013- Bonnie Tyler, Neath

Born in Skewen, Neath, to a coal miner and a housewife.

Represented the UK after achieving huge hits in the 1980s with singles including "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding out for a Hero".

Her Eurovision entry "Believe in Me" finished in 19th place.
