50 years of the anti-drink driving campaign: Is the message getting through in Wales?

Today marks the 50th anniversary of drink-drive campaigning.

Since the first public information film warning of the dangers of drink-driving aired half a century ago, a combination of road safety campaigning and increasingly tough laws have changed attitudes and cut road deaths.

However the most recent records, from 2012, show that 90 people were still killed or seriously injured on Welsh roads.

Drinking and driving can have devastating results.

The cyclist Simon Richardson knows this all too well.

He won a gold medal at the 2008 Paralympics.

But his hopes for London 2012 were dashed when he was hit by a drunk driver when training near his home.

The driver involved in the hit and run was jailed for eighteen months.

Tougher laws and changing attitudes over the years are credited with reducing the number of drink-driving casualties.

Campaigners say there's still work to be done.
