Crimestoppers offers reward over convicted killer
The charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information leading to the arrest of unlawfully at large convicted murderer Thomas McCabe.
McCabe, 56, is originally from Northern Ireland, but was sentenced to life for murder in England in 1990 after beating to death a teenage cousin of his then girlfriend.
He was later transferred to Northern Ireland to serve out his sentence.
McCabe was released from Maghabery Prison on licence, but it was revoked in January 2018 after a number of breaches.
“Since then, we have conducted a number of detailed enquiries to establish McCabe’s whereabouts, but unfortunately at this time he remains at large,” PSNI Detective Constable Julie McVeagh said.
McCabe is believed to have connections to Newry, Newtownabbey, and Dublin.
He is described as being around 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build, with short grey hair.
“I would appeal to anyone who has seen Thomas McCabe, or who knows of his whereabouts, to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on 101,” DC McVeagh said.
“I would also appeal directly to Thomas to hand himself in.”
She added: “Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously.
“They are offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information the charity exclusively receives that leads to Thomas McCabe’s arrest.”
A spokesperson at Crimestoppers said: “It is important to remind people that assisting somebody wanted for questioning over a crime can lead to prosecution.
“Crimestoppers has been taking crime information since our charity was formed over 32 years ago.
“We have always kept our promise of anonymity to the millions of people who have trusted us and every day, over a thousand people contact us online and on the phone.”
