Police investigating the suspected murder of a Co Down man missing for nearly a week have released CCTV footage of his last known movements.

William McCormick - a married father-of-four from Comber, known locally as Pat - was last seen on Thursday 30 May.

He has not been in contact with his family since.

Two people, arrested on Monday on suspicion of murder, have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The footage shows the 55-year-old driving his black Citroen C4 in the Castle Street area of Comber, where he is from, at about 10pm last Thursday after he earlier left his parents’ home in Ballynahinch.

Mr McCormick is also shown crossing the road towards a block of apartments.

Police say that is the last time he was seen alive.

His phone has not been used in the days since his disappearance and a murder investigation is already underway.

Mr McCormick’s family are being supported by their minister at Strean Presbyterian Church in Newtownards, where he has worshipped for over 20 years and worked as a caretaker for the last 10.

“His family, obviously, are devastated,” Rev Jeff McWatters told UTV.

“They’re finding it very hard to deal with.”

He added: “That’s why they’ve appealed for anybody who has any information to come forward and share that with the police - just so they can find out what has happened to William, where he is, just to give them that closure that they need.”

Detectives made two arrests – a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were detained in the Comber area on Monday on suspicion of kidnapping.

The woman was also questioned about perverting the course of justice.

Then, that same evening, the pair were re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

Both were released on bail pending further enquiries on Wednesday.

Police say they are following a number of lines of enquiry.

However, for Mr McCormick’s family, the agonising wait for answers as to exactly what happened to him continues.

“We are now six days on from Pat’s disappearance and his family deserve to know what has happened to him,” PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Pete Montgomery said.

“I’m hoping that the release of this footage will jog people’s memories.”

Police are also still looking for items including Mr McCormick’s phone – an iPhone SE – which may have been discarded somewhere, or clothing including the beige jacket, blue jeans, or brown brogues he was wearing when last seen.

“I would urge anyone who has any information surrounding Pat’s disappearance to contact detectives at the incident room at Musgrave Street on 101,” DCI Montgomery said.

“Alternatively information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
