Shoppers are being warned to curb their speed after more than 220 drivers were caught caught breaking the limit around the Metrocentre and Team Valley in one day.

Police conducted a speeding operation around the Metrocentre and Team Valley Trading Estate after concerns from local residents about dangerous driving.

As part of Operation Odeon they caught 223 drivers travelling over the limit and found two drivers on the wrong-side of the road.

Officers were deployed for five hours on the 30mph stretches of road around both the Metro Centre and Team Valley.

Police say they witnessed drivers travelling at almost double the 30mph limit and saw two motorists driving on the wrong-side of the carriageway.

Operation Odeon was a collaboration between neighbourhood officers and volunteers from the Special Constabulary.

Anyone wanting to report dangerous driving is asked to submit dash-cam footage on the ‘Report an Incident’ section of the Northumbria Police website.
