Former SSI steelworks site on Teesside has been secured for redevelopment after public inquiry

The former SSI steelworks site on Teesside has been secured for redevelopment after a three-year battle.

A public inquiry into the compulsory purchase of the land ruled that the 870 acres in Redcar will join the plot already secured from Tata Steel in 2019.

The South Tees Development Corporation now has control of the majority of the land.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has welcomed the successful outcome of the Public Inquiry into the Compulsory Purchase of the former SSI steelworks, saying the decision heralds the “dawn of a new era” for the site.
