Coronavirus death toll in the Tyne Tees region passes 600
The number of people who have died after testing positive for Covid-19 in our region has now passed 600.
The latest figures show 604 people have died in hospitals across the North East and North Yorkshire.
The total number of deaths for the country stands at 11,005.
The Department of Health said as of 9am on Tuesday 14 April, a total of 382,650 coronavirus tests had been carried out in the UK, with 93,873 testing positive.
The latest Nightingale hospital will be built in the North East and is expected to be ready to begin treating coronavirus patients from the end of April.
Work has been taking place for almost three weeks to transform a business unit in Washington into the temporary facility. It follows the announcement that the NHS has begun recruiting staff for the new Nightingale hospital in Harrogate.
