The people from the north east being commended in the New Year's Honours List

Each year different people from different walks of life are commended in the New Year's Honours List.

The Honours formally award those who have made achievements in public life, committed themselves to helping Britain and improving the lives of others.

Several people from the north east were commended for their achievements across sport, business and charitable service.

Andrew William Graham Wylie - Knights Bachelor

North east businessman Andrew William Graham Wylie has received an honour for services to business and charity.

Adam Ronald Hogg - CBE

Adam Ronald Hogg, who was commonly known as Ron Hogg, has been posthumously given a CBE for his charitable and political services.

Mr Hogg passed away recently after a short battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

Ben Stokes - OBE

Ben Stokes has been awarded for his services to cricket. The Durham cricketer has played his part in some incredible results for the England cricket team this year, including their Cricket World Cup win in July.

Stokes has received plenty of plaudits this year. Earlier this month he won the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year Award.

Sunderland's Jill Scott is another of our region's sporting stars who've been singled out for praise.

Scott was part of the Lionesses squad that went all the way to the World Cup semi-finals in the summer.
