Former Police, Crime and Victims' Commissioner Ron Hogg dies after short battle with Motor Neurone Disease aged 68
Ron Hogg, the former Police, Crime and Victims' Commissioner, has died.
Mr Hogg passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning after a short battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Steve White, Mr Hogg's chief executive, said in a statement he had never known someone in policing who was so universally respected.
Chief constable Jo Farrell said: "Durham Constabulary and the people of County Durham and Darlington have lost a great colleague and friend.
"Ron was a radical thinker, an inspiring leader and a lifelong public servant who wasn't afraid to tackle head-on some of the most difficult issues facing society.
"I would like to offer Maureen and the rest of Ron's family my deepest sympathies and the condolences of everyone at the Durham Constabulary."
Mr Hogg's family are said to be very grateful for the messages they have received although are asking that no cards or flowers are sent.
