The UCI Road World Cycling Championships are coming to our region, here's what you need to know
Taking place from 21 - 29 September 2019
It's one of the highlights of the sporting calendar and this time, it's heading to our region.
In September, the world’s best cyclists will be welcomed to Yorkshire for the UCI Road World Championships, which will include a range of men’s and women’s races. Competitors will range in age from junior to elite, starting in different towns and cities throughout Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire host towns include Richmond, Northallerton, Ripon and Wetherby. Harrogate has been selected as the main competition town. The competition also stretches down to South Yorkshire.

The year the first UCI Road World Championships took place was back in 1921, but it wasn't until 1958 that women could compete in the elite road race.

HARROGATE • Sunday 22 September - Team Time Trial Mixed Relay
HARROGATE • Monday 23 September - Women Junior Individual Time Trial & Men Junior Individual Time Trial
RIPON • Tuesday 24 September - Women Elite Individual Time Trial & Men U23 Individual Time Trial
NORTHALLERTON • Wednesday 25 September - Men Elite Individual Time Trial
RICHMOND • Thursday 26 September - Men Junior Road Race
For the very first time, Para-cycling races will take place alongside the UCI Road World Championships. The races will be Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games qualifiers and will take place on Saturday 21 Septemeber in Harrogate.
Travel tips for the competition:
Train
The Fan Zone is located within a short 10-minute walk from the Harrogate train station, simply follow the 'Fan Zone' wayfinding signs or ask one of our Yorkshire Team Volunteers for directions.
Bus
The Fan Zone is located within a short 10-minute walk from the Harrogate bus station, simply follow the 'Fan Zone' wayfinding signs or ask one of our Yorkshire Team Volunteers for directions.
Bike
There will be secure*, managed bike parking located adjacent to the Fan Zone off Otley Road. Bike parking is available on a first-come first-serve basis, spectators should bring their own bike locks as they will not be provided. Bikes will not be permitted into the Fan Zone.
*Please note that all bikes are left at the risk of the spectator.
Car
Spectator parking is available to book. Parking is limited so advance booking is advised. Parking facilities are located within convenient walking distance to the Fan Zone and race circuit.
