Words of commentary legend Ali Brownlee to be immortalised near the Riverside
Football commentary legend Ali Brownlee is to have his words immortalised in a tribute near the Riverside Stadium.
The wall mural, a joint project between Middlesbrough Football Club and Middlesbrough Council, will stand as a lasting tribute on the Sheperdson Way underpass.
Ali's memorable monologue on the final whistle of Middlesbrough's 2006 UEFA Cup semi-final victory over Steau Bucharest will be emblazoned on the underpass.
Middlesbrough Council launched a public poetry scheme earlier this year. There are now three prominent pieces of poetry in the town centre on Baker Street, Bedford Street and King Edward's Square.
Middlesbrough Mayor Dave Budd said: "Every Boro fan will have their own favourite Ali Brownlee moment. His way with words, both in the good times and the bad, was undoubtedly poetic and we are delighted to be making this tribute to a man who will never be forgotten in Middlesbrough.
