Akpom became the first Boro striker to get 20 league goals in a season since Bernie Slaven in 1989-90 after scoring a penalty in their 5-0 thrashing of Reading.

The former Manchester United player steps into the position following the sacking of Chris Wilder in early October.

A goal from 19-year-old Josh Coburn in the second half of extra time, saw Boro beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium.
