Eleven former steelworkers have been getting to grips with new skills after one of Teesside's biggest employers made thousands redundant.

Many of the former SSI employees are still looking for permanent work.

Today at Newcastle Airport they've been broadening their skills at the Fire Training Academy.

It is all part of Middlesbrough Football Club's Foundation Team Talk project, which was set up by the club's players to help those aged 40 and over, who lost their jobs at the steelworks.

The training programme took place at Newcastle Airport to explore opportunities for work on Tyneside.
