The first evening Jobs Fair to be organised by the SSI Task Force is set to take place in Redcar today.

The Jobs Fair is open to anyone looking for work, and takes place between 5pm and 8pm at the Redcar and Cleveland Leisure & Community Heart.

Employers attending include:

Cleveland Fire Brigade, who are currently recruiting firefighters
Protocol Education, who have vacancies in schools
Best Connection, who specialise in industrial and retail jobs
Cleveland LGV, who provide training for lorry drivers
MGT Teesside, who are offering a range of roles
First Choice Security, who supply security to businesses
Cleveland Containers who hire and sell containers
Cleveland Containers who hire and sell containers
Hays Recruitment who have in IT, Finance, Construction, Marketing
Middlesbrough Football Club who are looking for a Youth Employment Initiative worker
Learning Curve Group, who specialise in education and training
Allied Health Care, who provide healthcare staffing service
G4S, who have a range of vacancies
Virgin Media, who have jobs in their contact centre
Lovely Lawns, a specialist weed and feed service

National Careers Service are attending to offer advice on training and jobs, and Enterprise Revolution will be on hand to help people who are interested in starting their own business.

“Feedback from the SSI survey showed that people wanted to attend Jobs Fairs and other events after work, which is why we have organised this event for the early evening. The other message is that the Jobs Fair is open to everyone who is looking for work. These events have been successful in matching people with jobs so it is important to help others in the Tees Valley affected by redundancy or unemployment. I’m really pleased that some of the employers attending like Cleveland LGV have started their own business with help from the Task Force funds and are training people for new jobs. There is still support and help available for employers who are interested in taking on former SSI and supply chain workers, and over 350 jobs have been created through this scheme. Funds are still available for tailored training to help people further their chosen career as well as set up their own business.”
