Triple Paralympic champion Stephen Miller to collect MBE
Triple Paralympic Champion Stephen Miller will receive his MBE at a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace today. The athlete from Cramlington, Northumberland was selected to receive the MBE award in the New Year Honours for services to sport.
This summer marks 20 years since Miller won gold at the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta at the age of 16 years and 91 days, becoming the youngest ever track and field gold medallist for Great Britain.
In a career that has included 5 Paralympic Games, 6 World Championships and 4 European Championships, Miller has won over 25 International medals, held the F32 Club Throw World Record from 1997-2008 and went undefeated for 9 years from 1996-2005. Miller is currently working on securing a place in the GB team for the Rio Paralympics being held this September, the team is selected in July.
Along with his wife Rachel, Miller founded SMILE Through Sport in 2013 to provide inspiration and opportunities to encourage more people to get involved in disability sport.
This involves appearances from Stephen as well as delivering sport sessions and education programmes. So far SMILE has engaged with hundreds of disabled people.
