North East Guinea pigs in need of a loving home
Since the start of the year the North East Guinea Pig Rescue has been inundated with abandoned, neglected and unwanted guinea pigs.
This has taken the rescue to full capacity and they now have a long waiting list of guinea pigs needing a space at the centre.
The rescue are making a plea for forever homes for the guinea pigs currently in their care and asking people to 'Opt to Adopt.'
Layla Rumsey who runs the rescue out of her own home said:
The Guinea Pig Rescue offer advice and support for the guinea pigs' life time and are also able to help with bonding lone guinea pigs.
Layla urges anyone potential owners to think before taking on guinea pigs.
Layla's advice on caring for guinea pigs for those considering adopting:
- Guinea pigs should not be kept alone or with rabbits. They require same species company so it is important that they live in pairs or sows can live in groups.
- A pair of guinea pigs require a cage sized 120 cm x 60 cm minimum and they should have indoor or heated accommodation over the colder months of the year.
- They need plenty of hay and a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables daily. These are pictures of the guinea pigs currently needing homes.
