Former Newcastle United midfielder Jonás Gutiérrez has agreed a move to Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna.

Gutierrez was released by the club when his contract expired in June, and has now signed with the La Liga club as a free agent.

He returned to the first team earlier this season after recovering from testicular cancer.

The 32-year-old made a marked contribution to United's Premier League survival with a crucial goal against West Ham, but left on a sour note after hitting out at Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

During his seven-year spell on Tyneside he cemented his place as a fan favourite:

Gutiérrez is expected to travel from Argentina to Spain in the coming days, making his return to the country seven years after leaving Real Mallorca to join Newcastle United in 2008.
