Jonas Gutierrez leaves Newcastle and hits out at Mike Ashley
Jonas Gutierrez is set to leave Newcastle but he has also fired a parting shot at the club's owner Mike Ashley.
He will officially cease to be a Newcastle player when his current contract runs out on 30 June.
Posting on his Twitter account, @elgalgojonas, he wrote: "Two things I learn from my illness how you can support a player (newcastle fans) and how youleave a player alone (newcastle owner)".
The popular 31-year-old midfielder started the season battling his way back from testicular cancer and ended it by inspiring the Newcastle to a vital 2-0 win over West Ham.
In that game, which secured Newcastle's Premier League status last weekend, Jonas Gutierrez set up one goal and then scored the other. But he has not been offered a new contract by the club.
His tweet follows comments he made in March to the French TV Canal+ where he reportedly said: "I returned mid-November and at the beginning to mid-December the manager said I should find myself another club, that it was best... er, I understand a lot of things about football that, well, that for the directors it is a business, no?"
He added: :"It is clear that they look after the club's interests, but I think in asituation like that, you need to save other things, even more if yousee I had been playing for five years before having this problem, I was always playing."
Defender Ryan Taylor is also leaving Newcastle, having not been offered a new deal. He arrived from Wigan in 2009 and made 110 appearances despite suffering from two knee ligament injuries. He made his return from a 26-month absence in Newcastle's League Cup win at Manchester Citylast October.
