School students have been experiencing what it's like to work at some of the North East's biggest department stores.

Retail Gold has been running since 2005, providing hundreds of pupils with placements at mass retailers in Eldon Square in Newcastle and the MetroCentre in Gateshead. The project aims to give students training and experience to help shape their future careers.

Tracy Allison, Managing Consultant at Employment in Education, said:

Forty-five students from Excelsior Academy, Gosforth Academy, Sacred Heart Catholic High School and St Thomas More Catholic School in Gateshead all in took part in this year's scheme over the last six months.
