The PM said in January that stopping small boat crossings was one of his top priorities for this parliament but was today unable to say if he would manage it.

Ministers are pushing on with plans to use the vessel in Portland Port, Dorset, despite safety fears and local opposition.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak claimed his plan to 'stop the boats' is "starting to work” but there is still a “long way to go”.
