Post Office chairman Nigel Railton made the comments before a session of the Business and Trade Committee on Tuesday.

ITV News understands the cases were flagged to the Met by an internal inquiry set up by the Post Office, to review the conduct of its investigators.

Badenoch told the Post Office inquiry on Monday: “I feel that there is often too much bureaucracy in the way of getting things done."
