Windsor and Maidenhead Council says the project will extend the life of the Grade II listed structure.

Experts say its discovery could give them a unique insight into the life of its ruler Queen Cynethryth, one of the most powerful women of the Early Middle Ages.

Emergency services were called to Lulle Brook near Maidenhead at 7pm on Tuesday, with searches continuing late into the night.
