Man found dead in River Thames in Berkshire named

A man found dead in the River Thames in Berkshire has been named as 31-year-old Eyad Al Ryabi.

He went into the Brook in Cookham on Tuesday after his friend got into trouble while swimming.

He was a Syrian refugee and a father of five.

His family are being supported by officers, and have described him as a 'wonderful father'.

Emergency services were called to Lulle Brook between Odney Lane and Mill Lane in Cookham near Maidenhead at 7pm on Tuesday, with searches continuing late into the night.

Another Syrian man, who's 35, was rescued and is in a serious condition in hospital.

A third man entered the water to assist, but left the water unharmed.

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) were on the scene supporting Thames Valley Police, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
