Spurs were keen to sign Man United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin on deadline day, but it's thought their hopes were dashed by Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was not prepared to let Schneiderlin leave the club during the summer, even though he is unlikely to play a huge part for United in the Premier League this season.

While Schneiderlin is by no means a first choice for United, Mourinho would not consider allowing him to leave because he is expected to feature prominently in the club's Europa League campaign.

Mourinho also had reservations about letting him join one of the clubs likely to challenge United for the Premier League title, particularly since Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino worked with Schneiderlin at Southampton, and knows how to get the best out of him.

Last summer, Mourinho made a point of stating it was not his decision to sell Petr Cech to Arsenal while he was still the manager of Chelsea, whose owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned the deal.

Spurs responded by pulling off one of the most eye-catching late transfers on deadline day, beating Everton to the signing Schneiderlin's international team-mate, Moussa Sissoko, in a £30m deal.

West Brom have completed the signing of Wales forward Hal Robson-Kanu.

The Baggies pushed ahead with a deal after the 27-year-old was granted permission to leave the Wales squad to complete his medical.

He was a free agent after leaving Reading in the summer and was not governed by the window so there was no time pressure on Albion getting the deal done on Wednesday.

Robson Kanu scored twice in Wales' run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 and netted five goals for Reading in the Championship last season.

Rickie Lambert agrees two-year deal at Cardiff

Cardiff have signed former England international striker Rickie Lambert from West Brom for an undisclosed fee.

Lambert has agreed terms on a two-year contract at Cardiff City Stadium after featuring in only half of West Brom's Premier League fixtures last season.

Newcastle have bolstered their attacking options by securing the services of Christan Atsu on a season-long loan deal.

The Ghanaian winger spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and Malaga, where he featured in 10 La Liga fixtures.

The 24 year-old becomes the 38th player on Chelsea's books currently out on loan, and will hope to help the Magpies win promotion to the Premier League this season.

West Ham striker joins Everton for remainder of season

Everton have wrapped up a season-long loan deal for West Ham forward Enner Valencia.

The Ecuador striker will link up with the Toffees squad after the international break.

Valencia scored four Premier League goals in 19 appearances for West Ham during 2015/16, and Everton have been offered an option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Anya makes permanent switch from Watford to Derby

Scotland international Ikechi Anya has swapped Watford for Derby in a permanent transfer.

The 28 year-old winger, who can also play as a wing-back, has agreed terms on a four-year contract with the Championship club.

Anya featured 28 times for the Hornets in the Premier League last season and also played an important part in their promotion to the top flight in 2014/15.

Hull complete deal for former Norwich striker Mbokani

Hull City have completed the season-long loan signing of Dieumerci Mbokani from Dynamo Kiev.

The 30 year-old spent last season on loan at Norwich, scoring seven Premier League in 29 games, which wasn't enough to save the Canaries from relegation.
