A number of anti-Margaret Thatcher protests took place on Saturday, ahead of next Wednesday's funeral at St Paul's Cathedral in London.

Police arrest 16 during Thatcher protests in London

Police have confirmed that a total of 16 people were arrested in Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and nearby streets last night during Margaret Thatcher protests.

Those arrested are aged between 18 and 44 years.

They were arrested for the following offences:

  • Drunk & Disorderly: 8
  • Affray: 2
  • Public Order 2
  • Assault on Police 2
  • Breach of Peace 1
  • Obstructing Police 1

Most of those arrested remain in custody at a central London police station.

Police officer describes Millwall fans throwing bottles

A police officer at the Trafalgar Square Thatcher protests has been captured on camera telling members of the public that the crowd had been infiltrated by Millwall football fans.

The officer goes on to say that the fans had been causing fights and were throwing bottles - earlier reported to be filled with urine.

Moments later, people are seen throwing bottles at the police and the crowd.

Hundreds gather for Thatcher 'party' in Trafalgar Square

Hundreds of people gathered in the rain at London's Trafalgar Square tonight to mark the death of Baroness Thatcher.

Protesters against the former Prime Minister's legacy brought sparklers, party poppers and balloons.

Some drank cider and Champagne while others wore party hats as they chanted slogans about Lady Thatcher, who died on Monday.
