More than 120 flood alerts across the UK

More than 120 areas across the UK are on flood alert this morning with heavy rain set to fall over the weekend.

The Environment Agency has issued 124 flood alerts and 15 flood warnings - with the South West the worst affected.

MeteoGroup: 'Wet weather largely confined to South and West'

Through the weekend the UK is looking at a relatively mild picture compared to recent days, with temperatures in the double figures.

The wet weather looks like being largely confined to the South and West, where we'll see a mixture of sunshine and showers.

Unfortunately there is no significant dry weather down in the South West, but the precipitation will become more showery rather than the persistent rain they had through the night.

Flood alerts rise to 62 across England and Wales

The Environment Agency currently has 12 flood warnings and 62 flood alerts in place across England and Wales.

The Southeast, Southwest and Wales remain the areas worst affected.

  • Midlands - 0 flood warnings or alerts
  • Northeast - 3 flood alerts
  • Northwest - 5 flood alerts
  • Southeast - 3 flood warnings; 16 flood alerts
  • Southwest - 8 flood warnings; 29 alerts
  • Wales - 1 flood warning; 7 alerts

There are no severe flood warnings issued at this time.
