Griffin 'will not face action' over gay couple tweets

BNP leader Nick Griffin will not face any action after he published the address of a gay couple who won a landmark legal ruling on Twitter, police told the BBC.

The MEP published the address of Michael Black and John Morgan on the social networking site and called for a demonstration to be held outside their home.

Following a police investigation and advice from the Crown Prosecution Service no criminal offences were identified.

Nick Griffin: I didn’t post a menacing message

"I was very angry in the way in which left-wing political activists and a minority of gay activists are working with left-wing judges to use the Human Rights Act to persecute ordinary people, especially Christians.

"I most definitely didn’t post a menacing message and there’s nothing inciteful [sic]. I said that we’d be holding a demonstration on behalf of everybody including gay people to decide who they have and don’t have in their homes. I don’t think that could be described as menacing.

"I only regret that we haven’t so far found the address of the judge who made that outrageous judgement because when we do we’ll be looking at a demonstration somewhere near that."

Nick Griffin Twitter comments 'incoherent'

Michael Black, whose address was allegedly published by Nick Griffin, has described the BNP leader's tweets as "incoherent". He told BBC Breakfast:

We were shocked to hear about it and the more we read about it the more incoherent they seemed.

So we don't really know what Nick Griffin is getting at.

He accuses us of being heterophobic which is far from the truth and he has accused us of trying to outlaw Christianity which is not true either.

The [court] finding of discrimination protects Christians from being discriminated against as well as people who are gay or different races or different religions.

His partner John Morgan said the couple have not been at the address that was allegedly published and that "local police are keeping their eye on the property".

Nick Griffin unapologetic in new tweets

The BNP leader Nick Griffin has published two new tweets in which he appears to make reference to his earlier controversial comments.

He suggests the reaction to his comments has been disproportionate because gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell "can claim" to be offended by them.

Gay couple hit out at Nick Griffin over tweets

A gay couple whose address was allegedly tweeted by Nick Griffin have hit out at the far-right politician today.

Michael Black, 64, called the politician an "idiot" on BBC Breakfast. He said:

Certainly the public response to the incident, when it happened two-and-a-half years ago, and again in the last 24 hours, has been overwhelmingly in support of our stand against discrimination so hopefully that will mean the vast majority of the people in the country will just see what an idiot Nick Griffin is and reject his views.

B&B couple: We were never asked if we were married

Michael Black and John Morgan, who recently won damages from the owners of a B&B who refused them a room in 2010, have told Daybreak they were never asked if they were married.

The owners of the B&B had alleged that they did not withhold the room because the couple were gay, but because they were not married.

Andrea Williams from Christian Concern backed up the B&B owners saying that an unmarried heterosexual couple would have received the same treatment.
